What They're Saying About Polka Haunt Us:
"A brilliantly clever concept!"
-- Joe Chiccarelli, Grammy-winning Producer
"Artists like Weird Al, Polka Floyd and now Veronique Chevalier are showing us that polkas can not only rock, they can be valid methods of artist personal expression. It takes a lot of talent to pull something like this off, but Chevalier has it aplenty."
-- Lee Widener, Founder - Never Ending Wonder Radio
"Let’s face it: there’s a frightful shortage of good Halloween music. Veronique Chevalier agrees, which is why she’s put together Polka Haunt Us, a “spook-tacular” compilation of [what she] dubs 'World Gothic Polka.'
-- Chris Saccheri, Editor- Let's Polka- All Things Accordion
'"Polka Haunt Us" is a great addition to the radio program...I look forward to receiving future releases from your label."
-- Craig Ebel, Host- It's Polka Time, Nationally-syndicated Radio Program
"A new kind of concept album - a first for Halloween, and a first for polka music: a Halloween polka album. Great new compositions- funny and spooky!! Polka Haunt Us is a great fun album to listen to, and is sure to please polka fans around the world! Well done! Looking forward to their Christmas album!!"

Such an odd girl Birdlike it seems
Dark piecing eyes that haunted men's dreams
She and her mother worked the fishery
To wed her all the young fishermen schemed
Who fathered that Dark Pearl? A mystery
The lads wanted no village girls Only just she
How'd the raven-haired beauty bewitch the crews?
Only the Fisher Birds probably knew
Chorus:
Up from the island And out to the sea
Twelve Fisher Birds swooped and they swirled
On Midsummer's Day there were thirteen
And no sign of the raven-haired girl
If a man wished to win her as his sweet bride
First a great test he'd have to survive
To find her golden ring in the turbulent waves
Then could she wed on Midsummer's Day
But many gave up before even they tried
Fear of the great sea could not be denied
Only one lad dared to try for she'd
Saved him when once he'd washed up on the beach
Chorus:
Up from the island out to the sea
Twelve Fisher Birds swooped and they swirled
On Midsummer's Day there were thirteen
And no sign of the raven-haired girl
She loved the fair lad whose life she'd saved
And also to her his heart was enslaved
The breakers they braved on Midsummer's Day
And found her golden ring in the ocean spray
With ring in hand on the island they wed
With the sky as their witness and rocks for their bed
Their bodies and hearts were now as one
When he woke up his Love Bird was gone
Chorus:
The morning after Midsummer's Day
Twelve Fisher Birds swooped and they swirled
With only some rags left in the dinghy
What became of the raven-haired girl...?
About This Song: This hauntingly Gothic classical waltz is based on
a traditional Norwegian folktale of a strange, enchanted girl who seems to morph into
a Fisher Bird (cormorant) every year on Midsummer Day. Or does she...?
